out-of-body experience, OBE

Sometimes called 'lucid dreaming' or 'astral projection', an Out of Body Experience (or OBE) is the experience of being fully conscious and functioning while being outside one's physical body. People who have experienced this often report sensations of floating, perceiving one's own physical body from a different place, and being able to direct or control one's experiences by using thoughts.

Why are we doing this?

Hi there. My name is Michael. What if I were to tell you that there is something that if you knew about it, would change your life in all kinds of different ways for the better?

We are not selling anything, so please read on without prejudice or hesitation. Weigh what you read on this site honestly, in your head and heart.

We here at subtlerealm.org want to share an important part of the human experience with you. We want to confirm what you may have felt all your life but never knew how to put into words. Maybe you have had certain experiences you were afraid to talk about for fear of ridicule or being thought of as stupid or even crazy. We are here to point out that 'unusual experiences' are far more usual than we think for the simple fact that people seldom talk about them for the above reasons. We want you to be a wiser, happier human being than before you found this web site, we have no other motive than this. There will be no dogma, judgement, or belittlement - only an effort to educate people and help them understand a large part of their lives that most know almost nothing about. And, our approach is a scientific one, meaning that wherever we can point to scientific facts to support our claims, we will do so and cite our references.

The place where we go when we dream is a real place. It exists outside of our minds, and yet our experiences there are very much based upon our thoughts. It has been written about in countless books and has been symbolized and portrayed in many movies we are all familiar with. In fact, if one were to cognize the fact that the subtle world is a reality, then lots of historical legends would then become very logical, understandable lessons passed down to future generations (rather than seem like delusional fantasies for the masses of human kind).

It is hard for people to understand that knowledge acquired during daily life is essential to being able to function well in the subtle realm. Not only knowledge, but tolerance and perceptiveness. If you have ever had a lucid dream or an out-of-body experience, then you know the sheer joy that comes from such an experience! Few, if any, would ever forget something like that. What if you could educate yourself and thus have those kinds of experiences all the time? Most people would find their lives incredibly enriched by something such as this.

Welcome to subtlerealm.org! We are here to help people understand all they can about the subtle world. We are motivated by a shared vision of helping people understand the reality of their surroundings, and thus making the world a better place.

Before I read this book, I was skeptical about the intent behind the subject matter. Was the author just trying to make a fast buck by playing on my desire to know more about a subject that no one has really proven anything about? But my suspicions were quickly put away after the first couple of chapters.

There is no speculation or theory - Buhlman simply shares his personal diary or dream journal entries with the reader. His writing is very straightforward and he has a way of presenting his experiences that seems very real, factual. There is nothing that seems like "New Age" speculation or colorful window dressing, just the raw experience of a man who seems to possess the incredible talent of being able to leave his physical body (Out-of-Body Experience) at will and explore the dream-world in full consciousness.

I have to say that while his chapters about physics and black holes are interesting and that some of his scientific theories seem plausible, they are not the reason why I bought the book. I tended to skim these chapters and take them with a grain of salt instead of reading intently the way I did with the out-of-body descriptions and instructions. I actually found myself excited when he got down to the brass tacks of how to accomplish it.

Although I have not yet had an out-of-body experience the way Buhlman describes, I can report that after practicing his instructions for only a couple of weeks I've noticed that I am remembering my dreams more often and that they seem clearer. The fact that he has had success training people to do this in his workshops gives me hope that this work will pay off. I'm going to continue to practice his exercises, tips, and techniques and see what happens.

I would recommend this book to anyone who has an interest in this subject and wants to hear from someone who has been there. To me, Adventures Beyond the Body is like a no-nonsense how-to manual for out-of-body travel that I intend to follow until I get some results.

This book is essentially a guidebook for anybody who is ready to begin out of body exploration on their own. If you’ve read enough about the “astral plane”, or “other dimensions”, or “other modes of existence” and are ready to actually experience it for yourself, then you’ll want to pick this book up and begin following its instructions right away.

Many techniques are presented for your use, along with descriptions of what to expect along the way. The author also helps us understand what sort of mindset is most conducive to successful out-of-body experiences (OBEs). Hint: control of your thoughts is key.

He includes several journal entries from his early days of OBEs which really brought the reality of the possibility of out of body travel clearly into my mind. This was really exciting and motivating.

One critique is that, in the middle of the book, the author goes into his own theories and speculations on the nature of physics and reality that he has derived from his 20 years of OBEs quite extensively. While the ideas are compelling, provocative, and even quite convincing, I think that it might have been more effective to cut all that in half and instead provide more of his personal journal entries from his early OBEs, like the ones he copied for the reader in the first 2 chapters.

I also would have liked to learn more about how meditation helps one to achieve OBEs. The author did not go into any depth around this.

I am currently using his techniques and will update this book review once I have achieved success! He says to give it 30 days at least.
